Zomato launches Cashless feature in Dubai; partners exclusively with Emirates NBD

Zomato has launched the Cashless feature on its mobile app in an exclusive partnership with Emirates NBD, a leading bank in Dubai region.

The feature provides an enhanced payment experience by enabling diners to settle their bill at participating restaurants using the Zomato app on their smartphone, rather than paying with cash or physically swiping their cards at the restaurants.

At the end of the meal, the final bill amount is sent directly to the app on the diner’s smartphone and the payment is automatically deducted from the registered card.

“Credit card usage is extremely strong in Dubai which makes it the perfect market to launch a consumer feature as powerful as Cashless. Our focus has always been on making dining experiences more convenient for users, and this is going to change the way people dine out. We will be taking Cashless to more markets in the very near future,” said Pankaj Chaddah, Co-Founder and COO, Zomato.

Diners paying with Cashless will enjoy a 10 per cent discount on their first transaction, courtesy of Zomato.

The first 500 Emirates NBD Credit Cardholders who pay using Cashless at participating restaurants will also get up to AED 100 in cashback. Subsequently, Emirates NBD Credit Cardholders enjoy a 10 per cent cashback until the end of February 2015 on each Zomato Cashless transaction.

“We are pleased to extend our partnership with Zomato which complements our efforts in offering the most rewarding dining experience to our customers. The incentives offered through this partnership are in keeping with the bank’s commitment to offer unparalleled privileges through our highly successful Bon Appetit dining programme. We are confident that this attractive offer will be an excellent value addition to our customers in terms of dining experience, whilst reaping great savings and other benefits,” added Suvo Sarkar, General Manager - Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Emirates NBD.

“Our cashless payments system will store users’ credit card in a legally authorized secure vault, allowing them to pay at restaurants using the Zomato app. The app will provide the restaurant with access to this payment facility without the restaurant needing to use a card-reader machine. We are delighted to partner with Emirates NBD, the leading bank in the UAE to offer a launch promotion for this seamless and convenient payment solution,” shares Rohin Thampi, CEO Zomato UAE.

The Zomato Cashless feature will be available to anyone using the Zomato iOS app in Dubai, and can be used at over 120 participating restaurant outlets. It will soon be rolled out on the other smartphone platforms.
