Zomato buys Czech Republic's and Slovakia's restaurant guide

As part of its global expansion plans, online restaurant discovery platform Zomato has recently announced the acquisition of two popular restaurant guides viz., Lunchtime.cz and Obedovat.sk of Czech Republic and Slovakia respectively for a combined amount of $3.25 million. The latest acquisitions are a strategic move to establish Zomato's presence in central and Eastern Europe.

Commenting on the development, Deepinder Goyal, Co-Founder and CEO, Zomato, said, “Together Zomato, Lunchtime, and Obedovat will be able to build the largest resource of restaurant information in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.”

Zomato looks forward to combining the best of both business models to build an integrated product which the users as well as restaurant businesses will love once it's rolled out over the next few months, he added.

The company is also looking to infuse a further $2.5 million into their operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia over the next couple of years."We'll be able to combine our local expertise and focused product offering around lunch menus, with the technology and rich content platform that Zomato brings to the table," said Igor Treslin, Founder and CEO, Lunchtime.

The Lunchtime and Obedovat teams will be working closely with the Zomato team following this acquisition. Zomato had early last month acquired New Zealand-based eatery discovery service provider menumania.co.nz for an undisclosed amount.
