Shellcon concludes

Shellcon-2014 being organised by Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has concluded yesterday. The two-day festival started on 22nd March’ 14 includes cookery shows, shellfish cooking competitions, roundtable conferences, traditional shellfish preparations and live food stalls. Shellcon is aimed to make awareness among public on nutritious shellfish.

“One can eat live shellfish because, they continuously purify the body with filtered water and food,” says Dr K Sunilkumar Muhamed, Head, Molluscan Fisheries. The major highlight of the festival is live food stalls by hotels. Cookery shows by experienced chefs can instil an interest in people in preparing shellfish dishes.

Shell fishes enhance immunity and mental and reproductive vigilance. While compared to other meat products, the cholesterol rate is less in shellfish. So for those who shy away from eating meat can readily consume shellfish and enjoy the delicacies of the festival.
