F&B companies keen on using eCommerce platform

Food and beverages companies have also entered the race and are planning to use eCommerce platform to expand their business, says a PTI report.

According to a top government official, the rapidly growing eCommerce business has forced the food companies to use this platform for selling their products so that they can expand their reach and visibility.

“eCommerce activities have been flourishing in other sectors barring food processing in which corporate entry has yet to happen for eCommerce trade for processed food's retailing. Almost all the big players in food sector are looking to enter into the eCommerce space for selling their food items especially the non-perishable products to further expand their reach and visibility," said Siraj Hussain, Secretary, Food Processing Industry at the conference on 'India Farm 2 Fork' organised by PHD Chamber.

The Secretary also added that the Food Processing Ministry is seeking comments and views from all stakeholders including the industry on GST for the food, agri and horticulture products. And as soon as the proposed consultations will be over, the Ministry would forward the recommendations of all stakeholders to the Finance Ministry.

"The government is working on a comprehensive national insurance policy for agriculture sector to shield the farming community against all mis-fortune of their post harvest losses relating to all food and grain products,” said Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State for Agriculture.
