Barcelos introduces the world of Peri-Peri to India

Starting out from Delhi, Barcelos has planned its expansion into ten major cities in next five years targeting at around 20 outlets.

Barcelos, South Africa based casual dining restaurant chain, is opening its first outlet on 26th February at Khan Market in Delhi.

The location is the national capital’s hot-spot for the crème-de-la-crème, as well as the brand conscious generation next, who choose to shop here, conduct business and generally hang out.

Khan Market is also known for its gastronomic offering and is laced with an eclectic collection of cozy eateries.

After considerable research and after understanding Indian gourmet preferences, Barcelos has gone one step ahead in hiring a couple of chefs from India, who would create a specialized menu that would tickle the taste buds of the Indian customer.

“The traditional Portuguese cuisine is best known for its fondness for ingredients such as peri-peri and India is also a spice rich country. So, the blend of peri peri flavors in our Indianised menu will bring the taste of two cultures together which I believe definitely win Indian hearts and stomachs,” said Rohit Malhotra, GM Operations, Barcelos.

Barcelos has been particularly successful in creating customized recipes that would introduce Portuguese flavors to a predominantly vegetarian population, considering that about 40 per cent of the footfalls would be from this segment of customers.

As a casual dining eatery, Barcelos is making the pioneering move of sorts in virtually keeping away from all forms of saturated fats like oils and butter, but at the same time ensuring that it has no adverse effect on taste.

Starting out from Delhi, Barcelos has planned its expansion into ten major cities in next five years. While they may target around 20 outlets within this period, the actual roll-out could be tweaked based on existing market dynamics and the response.

The South African chain has grown exponentially which led it to start franchising in 1998. And is presence across 17 countries with 120 outlets.
