The sixth series of International Food processing, Agri Business and Dairy (FAD) summit cum exhibition organised by ASSOCHAM is going to be held on 29th September in Ahmedabad, Gujrat. FAD 2014 provides a common platform to explore mutually beneficial business opportunities and build partnerships and alliances. It also explores the emerging business opportunities in Agro-Food Processing & Dairy Sectors.
Food processing sector is one of the largest sectors in India in terms of production, growth, consumption, and export. India's food processing sector covers fruit and vegetables; spices; meat and poultry; milk and milk products, alcoholic beverages, fisheries, plantation, grain processing and other consumer product groups like confectionery, chocolates and cocoa products, soya-based products, mineral water, high protein foods etc. Central & State Governments has also approved proposals for joint ventures; foreign collaboration, industrial licenses and 100 percent export oriented units envisaging an investment. Out of this, foreign investment is over Rs.10,000 crores, states ASSOCHAM report.
Commenting on how the government is working on sustaining the food products, Siraj Hussain, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industry, says, “The govt is concerned about the losses especially in fruits and vegetables because it reduces the availability of food products and also cause inflation. So, the govt is providing a number of incentives to food processing industry, food preservation industry so that there is facility of integration from farm to the fork.”
The Food processing industry is expected to grow in next five year reaching Rs 873,000 Cr by 2015-16.
