A Scrumptious Bengali 'Thali'
A Scrumptious Bengali 'Thali'

The first restaurant, ‘Thali’, serving bengali thali has opened its doors in the city’s Ballygunge locality in South Bengal to wow foodies with its '6 Ballygunge Place Thalis’ – the restaurant’’s theme – that provides everything – from starters to desserts – all in a single plate.

Talking about the craze for Bengali foods, Sushanta Sengupta, Chef, Thali restaurant, said, "Bengali food can be enjoyed only in the thali form. The main thali is vegetarian and the add-ons are available. The thali will be totally themed on Bengali food items”.

The mouth watering menu includes small bowls of traditional Bengali vegetarian fare like ‘dal’ (lentil soup), spinach (seasonal), ‘shukto’ (bitter gourd stew with other vegetables) and ‘chutney’. ‘Luchis’ (deep-fried wheat flatbread) and potato fries form the core of the sweet and savoury array of dishes. The non-vegetarian platter, on the other hand, will have ‘Chingrir Malai Curry’ (prawn and coconut curry), roasted ‘Katla maach’ (roasted Katla fish) and ‘Kosha mangsho’ (mutton curry) on the platter. The famous ‘Mishti Doi’ (sweet curd) and mocktails, like ‘Aam Porar Sharbat’ (green mango juice) and ‘Gondhoraj Ghol’ (sweet-lime refresher), are served as traditional thirst-quenchers.

The restaurant is also planning to open five branches in the near future.
