Zomato acquires MenuMania

Zomato has acquired MenuMania, the eight-year-old restaurant listing and review site in New Zealand. The company is also planning to launch its operation in Christchurch next week.

Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO, Zomato said, “The company was in 12 countries around the world and was the leader in nine of those markets but New Zealand was not one of them. The plan is we have to win anywhere we go. The MenuMania team is very passionate about restaurants and helping people discover new places to eat. We look forward to working closely with them to leverage their local expertise.”

However, listings of restaurants in other towns and cities in New Zealand those were on the MenuMania site would be shut down. The new development would give Zomato more traffic and generate more content and reviews. Zomato New Zealand currently employed 20 people and MenuMania employed four.

Speaking on the same, Cristian Rosescu, Founder and CEO, MenuMania, said, “The move would deliver better value to local restaurants as New Zealand users would now have access to their business’s information on a common platform. It's going to be an exciting next few months to integrate MenuMania with Zomato. We will be able to combine our local knowledge about the market, with the technology Zomato brings to the table.”
