Sbarro to open 20 outlets in India by 2016 end

Sbarro, the US-based pizza chain, is planning to open 20 outlets in north and east India by 2016 end.

‘The New York style pizza’ chain is operated by its master franchisee Jyoti International in north and east India.

The company is also targeting at over 40-50 outlets in next five years.

“We are looking at about 40-50 outlets in next five years, where we will begin with Delhi NCR and gradually move towards other cities. Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Kolkata are the major cities for expansion within the next five years,” said, Akhil Puri, CEO, Sbarro.

Presently Sbarro has around 900 Sbarro outlets in more than 40 countries. And it operates two outlets in north and east India.

"We plan to open 20 new restaurants by end of 2016 and will be investing up to Rs 30 crore for this," added Puri.

The group is targeting various models at different locations. In some places they will have flagship restaurants and in some they will operate inline stores.

Sbarro is also planning to enter into home delivery outlets.

"The flagship outlets will have a space of around 2,000 sq feet. Inline outlets in malls would be between 1000 to 1,200 sq feet while in food courts and kiosks it will be between 400 to 600 sq feet,” added Puri.

Sbarro is targeting competitors from the globe in the Indian market, where they will be using high quality ingredients in making pizza.

“We are also focusing in introducing value for money pizzas and products for the local customers, where pricing is very pocket friendly for the target customers,” mentioned Puri.
