Foodpanda Eyes 500cr Sales

With an eye on expanding its customer base, Foodpanda has launched an app for iOS and Android users which they claim bring in almost 15 percent of their orders. Having chalked out plans to launch in three new cities including Ahmadabad, Chennai and Kolkata, the Foodpanda team has lined up plans to scale to 20 new cities by 2015.

Foodpanda, is an online food delivery service with a presence in over 27 countries. Brought to India by former McKenzie consultant Mr. Amit Kohli and investment banker turned entrepreneur Mr. Rohit Chadda in 2012, the website has partnered with 2000 restaurants across 10 cities and sees almost 35000 visitors every single day. In 12 months since the launch of its website, it has registered over one lakh transactions.

Mr. Amit Kohli, Co-founder, Foodpanda India says,"All the big brands that are there in India today are part of the Foodpanda network that’s something that we really feel proud of and that’s something that customers want to come back and order from us. The second and the most important one is our operations the backend. We relay the order in under two minutes. We make sure that we are following up on the order so that the order gets delivered in less than 45 minutes to the customers and that is something that has helped us in customers coming back."

Having roped in brands like Pizza Hut, Subway, Nirula's, Faasos and Baskin Robins to its online network in India the duo is targeting 20-45 year old working professionals in metros and tier-I cities.

"We consider our primary competition to be ordering on phone and that is where we come in and we try to make the process extremely convenient, give the customers such features on our website such that you have 2000 restaurants to choose from, you can reorder at the click of a button, so we save all your orders, you can save multiple addresses, so you don’t need to relay your address each time that you come to order. Hence we make the process much more convenient so that to move the customer from phone ordering to online ordering," adds Rohit Chadda, Co-founder, Foodpanda India.

With an eye of queuing up 5000 restaurants to add to their list the venture is looking to breakeven over the next two years and pocket sales of Rs 500 crore in the next five years.
