Controls 17 percent of the Indian malt market.

Diageo’s market share increases

Diageo has improved market share of all its core brands in India with an aggressive sales network of United Spirits, India’s top liquor.

Bhavesh Somaya, Marketing Director, Diageo India, said, "Our Asia-Pacific president has reviewed our plans thrice in 2013 compared to maybe once in a year earlier. And he is paying very close attention to metrics like specific market share which was earlier just part of the entire region's performance.”

According to International Wine and Spirits Research (IWSR), “Diageo has a share of 17 percent on Indian malt industry up from 12 percent from last year”.

The Johnnie Walker family of brands which account for 30 percent of Diageo India sales has grown too. In the premium Scotch market, Johnnie Walker Black Label gained 3 percent market share at 65 percent while its nearest rival Chivas Regal 12-Year of French firm Pernod Ricard lost 2 percent last calendar to 24 percent share.
