ChefHost connects diners with chefs

ChefHost, an online start-up which links its diners with chefs who can whip up a meal of their choice is gaining users and investor attention in less than a month of its launch. Abhinandan Balasubramaniam, Founder, ChefHost, said, “The idea for ChefHost was born from despair at the dwindling number of choices to eat out at in London where I head business development at online private equity platform Liquity.”

Balasubramaniam together with his friend Yiu Yin Yau, a Hong Kong native has pooled in Rs 10 lakh to set up the venture and signed on 20 chefs across India and Hong Kong. The group is also planning to add over 100 chefs by next year expanding its operation in Pakistan, China, West and Southeast Asia as well as the Latin American market.

ChefHost is also expecting investors including an actor from Bollywood to back the venture.  Suresh Selvaraj, CEO, Asianet News Network has made an angel investment in the company.

The company is also planning to partner with a waiter service in Hong Kong and has already begun to work with Bombay-based online gifting services startup Gifting Joy, and Chennai-based event management firm Quanta G. Any chef can upload their profiles and become employees of the portal while hosts can request for concierge services by indicating the date, time and place for the chef to arrive at. Typically a chef will prepare the menu, shop for ingredients, cook, serve and clean up with price ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 5,000 per diner.
