Ashish Bahuguna designated as new FSSAI chairman

Ashish Bahuguna, former agriculture secretary has been appointed as the chairman of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

The position which was vacant since January after K Chandramouli resigned from the post.

Till now Bhanu Pratap Sharma, secretary health and family welfare was temporarily incharge of the division. 

However, Bahuguna is appointed for three years as the tenure of the chairman at FSSAI is for three years. 

The development was confirmed by Yudhvir Singh Malik, CEO of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

The ministry of health and family welfare had released a circular in September 2014 announcing the vacancy. But the appointment was not made. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has lately been in the news after it banned Nestle's instant noodle brand Maggi for having lead beyond permissible limits.
